XP

"Mark XP" means that you make a tick mark in the XP box on your playbook, increasing your total XP by 1. Like so:

Once you've marked enough XP, you can spend it to either Burn Brightly or Level Up.

Your level reflects how much your PC has grown in competence and capability. You start at level 1. When you mark XP equal to 6 plus twice your current level, you can take some downtime and spend that XP to Level Up.

Each time you Level Up, you gain a new move from your playbook. At level 6, you gain access to your playbook's most potent moves. There is no maximum level, but each level requires 2 more XP to reach than the last.

If you're making a new character to join an ongoing game, you still start at level 1, no matter what level the other PCs are at. Don't worry about "power imbalance." A low-level PC doesn't have quite the range of options that a high-level one has, but they're still
