1. Determine what's happened

As the PCs head for home, take a few minutes to consider how things have been going while the PCs were away. Think about the following.

How long were the PCs gone? What have folks been up to or dealing with? How's morale been? Who's been worried sick, or resentful, or stepping up while the PCs were away? If the PCs were gone longer than expected, how did folks react to their delay?

If anyone on the expedition was wounded or didn't make it home, who will be most upset or affected by that?

What sort of work has been going on? Refer to the Stonetop impressions for ideas.

Did the PCs Requisition any town assets? How did the lack of those assets at home affect people's lives (if at all)?

Before they left, did the PCs trigger any moves that took time to resolve (like Pull Together)? Resolve them now and think about how you'll show the results, or make note of when and how you'll resolve them later.

Did any threats advance towards their impending dooms? If so, how will you reveal those grim portents to the PCs?

Take notes! If the return home happens mid-session, take a break to gather your thoughts. Make a list of details you want to establish in the upcoming scenes.

As the PCs near home, we take a break and I think about what's happened.

They've been gone for four days. Things were quiet when they left, except that Rhianna had been drilling the militia on readiness and told them to run some patrols while they were gone. I think they'll encounter one of those on the way home. Otherwise, folks would be doing typical summertime stuff.

The PCs didn't Requisition any town assets, and I've got no homefront threats with impending dooms. But before they left, Blodwen asked Seren to talk some sense into Tegwen, triggering Order Followers (Seren was Persuading on Blodwen's behalf ). We didn't resolve it at the time, so I ask Blodwen to roll now. She gets a 4. Tegwen will not, in fact, be seeing sense.

I make a quick list:

  • Garet had sister: Cerys (widow, kids Wini & Hewyl, 12 and 9)
  • Patrols in Wood, by the Stream
  • Haymaking, weeding, plowing the fallows
  • Seren's 4 to Persuade Tegwen
