Creating artifacts
See Appendix B: Artifact Creation for the full process.
Appendix B includes a detailed procedure for artifact creation. Use it when none of the existing artifacts in Book II meet your needs, or when you have an idea for an artifact that you want to flesh out. Or, just use it because you want to—making artifacts is fun!
To create a new artifact:
- Determine its origin and theme
- Determine its nature and any related characteristics
- Determine its form
- Synthesize these details
- Write it up, however makes sense
These steps are presented in order, but they can generally work in whatever order makes sense to you. Maybe you find it more effective to pick an artifact's form prior to picking its nature! That's fine.
I'm coming up with other artifacts for the PCs to find in the Green Lord's tomb, and decide to create one from scratch—something that maybe got missed by Thornthumb when he cleared the place out. It could be very large, something he couldn't move. Or something small that he missed. Or maybe it's made of iron, so he left it behind? I don't know, but I'll find out!
