Elaborate on the situation as much or as little as your players' interest demands. If they're engaged and enjoying themselves, asking questions and offering more details, then let things breathe and spend some time just talking about the leg of travel.

Likewise, if there's confusion or disagreement about what's going on, try to clarify and get everyone on the same page.
