Threats abound

On a 6- in spring, autumn, or winter, "threats abound." Make things bad. A monster attacks the village, with little or no warning. Multiple threats advance towards impending doom. Simmering tensions boil over. The weather is bad, crops fail, infrastructure crumbles, etc.

You don't have to do all these things, but you can. The season should be one of crisis and peril.
