Have the player pick

When there are multiple equally attractive (or repellant) options, have the player pick between them. For example, when a player gets a 10+ to Clash, they pick between striking hard or avoiding their foe's attack. When they Forage, they decide which benefit(s) to gain.

Letting the player pick gives them agency over their PC's behavior and fate. It helps players accept the bad stuff that happens to them. It allows them to say something about their PC, about what's important to them and how they handle trouble. And sometimes, a player will pick an outcome that you'd never choose to inflict on them.

Also, practically, it's just easier to have the player making the move make the choices, rather than having them read or pass the move's text to the GM or another player.
